New Delhi: A businessman was killed after being run over by a speeding car, which was allegedly driven by a 17-year-old in Mumbai’s Kalyan. The businessman, identified as 42-year-old Shrinivas Tandle, was allegedly on his bicycle when the accused hit him and fled the spot, police said.
The incident took place on a stretch of the under-construction Kalyan Ring Road on Tuesday. The deceased family members said that Tandle was flung a few metres in the air and died on the spot. While the stretch is not open for traffic, many motorists perform reckless bike stunts on it, the deceased’s brother said.
A senior police officer said the car involved in the incident has been traced and confirmed that the driver is a minor. Police may take action against the boy’s parents, the officer added. The boy’s father is a lawyer.
A case has been registered for rash and negligent driving. According to police, the car has been registered under his mother’s name and she has also been named as an accused. The minor told police that he had informed his mother before going out in the car.
Following the incident, the boy had said in a now-deleted post on social media that he had a “small accident” and feared being scolded by his father, TOI reported.
In the CCTV footage, a car being driven at high speed was seen crashing into the businessman while he was cycling on the road around 8 pm on Tuesday, before speeding away.
