New Delhi: The 19th edition of theIndian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 28 with the opening match between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule of the initial 20 matches, and the remaining fixtures will be released in the upcoming two-three days.

Throughout the history of the league, batters have been in the spotlight with likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and David Warner scoring runs consistently. While many players turned out to be just one or two-season wonders, few batters have been consistent throughout their careers, making their way to the highest run-scorers list in tournament history.

While the IPL is known for its explosive batting performances, the bowlers have played an equal role in shaping the match results. Bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga and DJ Bravo have won several matches for their franchises in the tournament.

Former Indian captains Kohli and Rohit lead the list of the highest run scorers in IPL history. Kohli has scored 8661 runs in 267 matches for RCB, and Rohit has amassed 7046 runs while playing for the Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers. In overseas batters, Warner is placed in the fourth position with 6565 runs in 184 games.

Top 10 wicket-takers of IPL

Yuzvendra Chahal tops the list of the highest wicket-takers in the history of the IPL, claiming 221 in 174 matches. Following Chahal on the list is fast bowler Bhuveneshwar with 198 wickets. Sunil Narine and Piyush Chawla have taken 192 wickets each in the league’s history.
