Ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season, Virat Kohli has added a new layer to his already extensive body art, with a full-sleeve tattoo on his left arm drawing attention. Executed by Aliens Tattoo India, the piece remains incomplete, with the cricketer reportedly allocating time in phases to continue the work.
The development comes as Kohli prepares for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s opening fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The studio has released details explaining both the technical process and conceptual direction behind the design, ensuring that the conversation remains about meaning rather than mere aesthetics.

Design rooted in continuity, not addition
According to the studio, the objective was not to introduce isolated artwork but to build continuity across Kohli’s existing tattoos. The sleeve has been conceptualised to merge earlier elements with new designs, forming a single, cohesive composition rather than a collection of separate visuals. The artists noted,
“This piece draws from his journey as a person. It reflects the transformation he has gone through, what he has moved beyond, what he has arrived at, and the direction he continues to move in."
This approach required revisiting older tattoos, including an incomplete armband inspired by Shiva, which had faded over time. Instead of removing past work entirely, the artists opted for selective restoration and integration, treating previous designs as structural components rather than redundancies.
They added,
“Some parts needed to be covered. Some needed to be refined and restored. And much more needed to be added — with purpose. To take scattered fragments and transform them into a single, cohesive sleeve that flows as one."

Symbolism, structure, and the lotus element
The sleeve expands from the elbow into a detailed mandala created through dotwork, establishing a visual anchor for the composition. Multiple styles have been incorporated, including semi-realism and geometric stippling, to maintain variation without disrupting flow.
As the design progresses towards the upper arm and shoulder, floral elements including a peony and a lotus are introduced. The studio emphasised the lotus as a central motif within the artwork.
They described the lotus as ‘a flower that rises from muddy waters, untouched by the filth it grows from, blooming with purity regardless of the environment it comes from.’ They explained that it serves as a symbol of peace, harmony, and resilience, mirroring his ability to maintain focus and discipline regardless of external circumstances. The studio said,
“In many ways, it mirrors his own journey. The rest of the meaning of this piece is deeply personal to Virat, and the story behind each element belongs to him.
