Manchester United are reportedly keen on bringing Sandro Tonali to Old Trafford, but could be slapped with a hefty asking price. Tonali has three years, plus a club option for a further 12 months, on his Newcastle deal, meaning the Magpies hold all the cards when it comes to negotiating a price.

Early indications suggest a fee of £100million might be needed to lure Tonali away from St. James' Park, as United look to reinforce their midfield options this summer. But what if United offered players of their own to Newcastle as a sweetener to bring the price down? Express Sport have picked out three potential options.

Luke Shaw

It's been an unusually injury-free season for Luke Shaw, who has enjoyed a stellar run of fitness. He'll have just one year left on his deal at the start of the season though, with United reportedly looking at left-backs as well as midfielders. The Englishman could appeal to Newcastle, who have struggled for depth in that position across the last couple of seasons.

Manuel Ugarte

How about a like-for-like? Well, positionally at least. Manuel Ugarte's time at United hasn't gone to plan, with the Uruguayan midfielder having found minutes hard to come by. For whatever reason, it doesn't look as if he'll find success with the Red Devils, making a move away from the club all the more likely. He might be a step down in quality from Tonali, but offering the ex-Paris Saint-Germain ace as part of the deal would make finding a replacement easier for Newcastle.

Joshua Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee arrived in the same summer as Ugarte, but he too has struggled for form at Old Trafford. A move away from the club was mooted in January, yet Zirkzee decided to stick around and fight for his position under interim manager Michael Carrick. That hasn't come to fruition, with exit talk once again likely to ramp up ahead of the summer. The Dutchman will fancy his chances of getting into the starting XI too, given neither Yoane Wissa nor Nick Woltemade have nailed down a position in the team since arriving from Brentford and Stuttgart respectively last summer.
