This year’s Hanuman Jayanti is coming up as it falls on the sacred Chaitra Purnima full moon day. On 2nd April 2026, devotees all over the world will come together to honour the auspicious birth of Hanuman Jhi. In short, this period is an excellent opportunity for us pay our reverence to a God who carries within him unmatched strength, courage and devotion. In this article, we will explore the divine birth story of Lord Hanuman that is deeply rooted in the union of Godly energies. These stories will help us strengthen our faith and also in inculcating the values of Anjaneya into our lives.
Hanuman’s Mother Anjana & Lord Shiva’s Blessings

Anjana was a celestial being who received a curse to live on earth. She was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and she used to perform deep penance in order to attain freedom from the curse through the birth of a child who has extraordinary prowess.
Kesari, a powerful Vanara or monkey king was the husband of Anjana. Indeed, he also joined Anjana in her intense devotion and penance. Pleased by their dedication, Lord Shiva decided to grant them a boon. Shiva Purana points out that Maha Dev took a decision to arrive on earth as an incarnation so as to help Bhagwan Vishnu- who was living on earth as Lord Rama- in his aim of establishing dharma through the destruction of Ravana.
Hence, Lord Hanuman is believed to be born as the 11th Rudra Avatar of Maha Dev. As Hanuman Jhi was born to Kesari and Anjana, he is lovingly called Kesarinandan and Anjaneya.
Story of Vayuputra & Putrakameshti Yagna
Ancient texts point out that while the queens were about to have the dessert a divine eagle swooped down and snatched some portion of it and flew away. As a result of Lord Shiva’s prompt, Vayu Dev, the God of wind guided the eagle to leave the sacred dessert exactly on the hands of Anjana as she was engaged in her prayers. Considering it as a boon from Maha Dev, she ate it and subsequently gave birth to Lord Anjaneya.
This divine intervention provided Hanuman Jhi the name Vayuputra or the son of the wind God. This incident created a powerful cosmic and spiritual connection between Lord Hanuman and Bhagwan Rama much before they met. In fact, this connection with Lord Vayu is an important reason why the Vayuputra is extremely fast, agile and is filled with inexhaustible amounts of energy.
As a matter of fact, Lord Hanuman’s birth story symbolises the union of Godly energies i.e., the supreme strength of Maha Dev, the boundless energy and speed of God Vayu and the blessings of many other gods. Hanuman Jhi’s story provides us important life lessons about courage, devotion, discipline and humility.
