The broadcasters for IPL 2026, Star Sports and JioHotstar, have announced an enormous commentary team for the new season. The broadcast will feature over 160 different voices, who will be commenting in various languages across India.
There has been a pattern where former cricketers move into commentary roles after their IPL stint. The IPL 2026 season will follow this pattern as various former cricketers will be joining the commentary team for their match analysis and player reviews.
The biggest news for today has come from the announcement regarding Ravichandran Ashwin. The former spinner for India has officially joined the commentary team after leaving the tournament as a player.
Ravichandran Ashwin joins Hindi commentary team
Ravichandran Ashwin has been a major contributor to the history of the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008. He started his IPL journey with the Chennai Super Kings and has since played for other teams such as Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiant, and the Rajasthan Royals.
Ashwin has recently retired from IPL but has taken up a new role. He will be a part of the Hindi commentary panel for JioHotstar under a segment named “Championswaali Commentary.”
During his tenure with the Chennai Super Kings, Ashwin won the IPL in 2010 and 2011 under the leadership of the great M.S. Dhoni. He will be a major asset to the panel owing to his experience and knowledge of the field.
Ashwin will be accompanied by other prominent IPL trophy winners such as Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Piyush Chawla, Umesh Yadav, Irfan Pathan, Virender Sehwag, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Aakash Chopra.

Big names in Hindi and English commentary
The Hindi commentary panel includes well-known voices like Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Bangar, Ajay Jadeja, and Mohammad Kaif.
The English panel also looks strong with names like AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, Faf du Plessis, Kevin Pietersen, Eoin Morgan, and Michael Clarke.
The matches will feature famous commentators who include Harsha Bhogle, Ravi Shastri, Ian Bishop, and Graeme Smith.
Focus on regional languages
There will also be many regional language commentaries in IPL 2026. For the Tamil commentary team, Murali Vijay, S Badrinath, and L Balaji will be a part of it. All three are former players. Radio personality RJ Balaji will also be a part of this team.
Other commentators who will be a part of this tournament and will be commentating in different languages are Hanuma Vihari, Krishnappa Gowtham, Veda Krishnamurthy, Manvinder Bisla, Pravin Tambe, and Jhulan Goswami.
