Trying the latest Easter eggs is something many of us look forward to every year. Whether it's from a local business or a viral trend from a supermarket, there is a lot to choose from.

In the UK, Easteris a popular time for chocolate. Between Good Friday and Easter Monday, many people relax and enjoy treats while kids stuff their faces in excitement.

And as Easter approaches in the UK, shops are filling up with chocolate eggs and Aldi stands out with a wide range at low prices. We tried some of their treats that Aldi sent us and were impressed by a few, though not all lived up to the hype.

  • Tuna mayo is tastier with 1 simple ingredient swap loved by 5 chefs

  • I make mashed potatoes taste even better by adding two leftover ingredients

  • Chocolate Mini Sitting Bunny - for just 99p this is an ideal snack for kids and adults - and the chocolate was surprisingly great quality and tasted luxurious

  • NEW Jammy Wheel Biscuit Egg - this costs £8.99 and while I am not a fan of jammy dodgers (sorry!) or similar biscuits, this was very good. Although it does become slightly too sweet after a while, it's a good pick nonetheless

  • Nutoka Milk Chocolate Eggs and mini eggs - this is great for anyone who loves chocolate spread, it reminded me of Nutella, but slightly sweeter yet nuttier

  • Milk Chocolate Jaffa Egg and mini eggs - such a great option for people looking for their chocolate orange fix and if you are a Terry's Chocolate fan then this can be a great alternative

  • Milk Hazelnut Truffle 'Luxury Filled Eggs' - no improvements needed, these are great quality mini eggs ideal with a cuppa tea at night, speaking from experience

  • Overloaded Millionaire Egg - perhaps my favourite of all, this costs £8.49 and has a liquid salted caramel centre that I needed more and more of - enough said!

  • Crispy Hazelnut Truffle 'Luxury Filled Eggs' - I prefer the non-crispy eggs, so I wasn't too keen on these, but I can't deny that these mini luxury eggs taste like they're using pretty good quality chocolate

  • Milkshake Hollows with Straw Chocolate - surprisingly impressive! It tastes like high-quality chocolate, which was a delightful surprise. Fun for both kids and adults, it features a hole on top for pouring in milk. Even better, it comes with a straw that’s chocolate-flavoured when used with plain milk, making every sip a treat

  • Luxury fruit hot cross buns - if you're a fan of the classic hot cross buns, there is no reason you won't love this!

  • Mighty Cheesy Hot Cross Buns - this is a 100 out of 10, I expected it to be pretty nasty because I hate yeast extract spreads, yet this tasted nothing like that and went down a treat during my lunch when I made it into a cheese hot cross bun sandwich

  • Rhubarb and Custard Hot Cross Buns - this was sadly not what I wanted it to be, I expected a lot more because I love this food combo, but it didn't taste of much and the texture of the Rhubarb wasn't for me

  • Disco Energy Ball - this did not live up to my expectations, I love a 'popping candy' effect, but I didn't get much from this and sadly, the chocolate didn't taste as good as the other ones do

My overall opinion

I tried a wide range of Easter treats, from budget bites to more indulgent options, and overall, there were some real standouts. The 99p Chocolate Mini Sitting Bunny was surprisingly luxurious for the price, while the Jammy Wheel Biscuit Egg was tasty, though it became a bit too sweet over time.

The Nutoka and Jaffa eggs are great alternatives for fans of chocolate spread and chocolate orange, and the hazelnut truffle luxury eggs were perfect with a cuppa.

However, the Overloaded Millionaire Egg was the highlight. It was so rich and indulgent with its liquid salted caramel centre that it genuinely made me feel rich eating it.

Other fun picks included the creative Milkshake Hollows with a chocolate straw, and standout bakery items like the cheesy hot cross buns. Though not everything hit the mark, the rhubarb buns and disco energy ball fell a bit flat.
