Martin Lewis has recommended a financial scheme which could be well worth your while investing in. He shared a host of tips on his BBC podcast.

He asked his listeners to share their insights about things they had learnt while working, which could help save you money. One person who has worked as a doctor for over 30 years said there is "no way" they would be without health insurance.

They recommended getting cover for major health conditions and to get mutual health insurance as a minimum. Responding to this, Mr Lewis said: "I certainly think many people underestimate healthcare cashback schemes, which is mutual cover.

"These are plans where you get dental or optical, even on the NHS, anything you're paying for on the NHS or private. Then you take your receipts at the end and they refund you up to a certain limit."

He explained how these schemes work: "So you might have £130 of dental cover, £150 of optical cover, £150 of physiotherapy in a year. So you pay and then you claim back on your receipts.

"If you're the type of person who is up to it and claims back, they can be worth their weight in gold and you can make far more money in a year than you pay into them."

Another health tip came in from someone who works in a GP practice. They said if you are on HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), it's worth signing up for prepayment prescriptions to save on your monthly costs.

Mr Lewis endorsed this suggestion, saying: "Quite right, couldn't support that any more. There are many women missing out on that one and it is a big way to save."

In buying a prepayment certificate, you pay a set price which covers all your NHS prescriptions. You can save on the cost if you need more than three items in 3 months, or 11 items in 12 months.

You can get a three-month prepayment certificate for £32.05 or a 12-month one for £114.50. The prescription charge per item in England is currently £9.90.

This means if you need two prescribed items each month, you would save £123 a year with a 12-month prepayment certificate. If you need three items a month, you would save £241 a year, and if you need four items, you would save £360 a year.
