New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene has confirmed that there are no injury concerns for Jasprit Bumrah and that he is available for the team’s opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. MI will lock horns with KKR in their first game of the season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 29.

Ahead of the opener, there were doubts over Bumrah’s participation in the game after he went to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) earlier this month, sparking injury concerns. Bumrah was part of India’s title-winning squad in the T20 World Cup 2026 and played an instrumental role in the team’s memorable triumph.

While all other Mumbai Indians players from India’s T20 World Cup squad joined the franchise, Bumrah remained absent. He was spotted at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence last week, leading to injury speculation. However, Jayawardene has confirmed Bumrah has joined MI’s squad and will be available for their opener against KKR.

“On Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah). He’s back with the squad. He’s available to play. That’s it,” said Jayawardene in the pre-match presser ahead of the Mumbai Indians’ clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.

Bumrah’s availability for their opener is a timely boost for the Mumbai Indians, who will look to get off to a winning start as they chase a record-extending sixth IPL title. While he is one of the best fast bowlers in the world at present, Bumrah also has a great record against KKR. The Indian pacer has picked up 25 wickets in 18 matches for MI against KKR in the IPL.

Mitchell Santner, Will Jacks yet to join MI squad

New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner and England star Will Jacks are yet to join the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad and are likely to miss a few matches for the five-time champions at the start of the season. Both Santner and Jacks were part of their respective national teams in the T20 World Cup 2026 and have been given an extended break by the franchise.

Jacks’ England reached the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026, where they lost to India, while Santner-led New Zealand were beaten in the final by the Men in Blue. Their late departure from India meant the duo have been allowed an extended break by the Mumbai Indians. The duo will miss MI’s opener against KKR on Sunday.
