KKR were asked to bat first by Mumbai Indians in the match 2 of IPL 2026 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Ajinkay Rahane and co. posted a huge total of 220/4 in 20 overs as the skipper starred with a composed 67 from 40 deliveries. Angkrish Raghuvanshi also played a wonderful innings of 51 runs from 29 deliveries and was well supported by Finn Allen who gave them a great start of 37 off just 17 deliveries. Rinku Singh chipped in with an unbeaten 33.


 


Rahane and Allen started of the innings really fast as KKR were well past 50 within 3.5 overs and were also well past 100 soon after. This quick progress continued with their middle order also continuing to score briskly at an even quicker pace, allowing Rinku Singh’s late cameo to take the final score to 220.


 


Shardul Thakur was the lone warrior with the ball for Mumbai Indians. The right-handed bowler picked up the crucial wickets of Rahane, Allen and Cameron Green conceding 39 runs in his 4 over spell.

Rohit Sharma and Rickelton Seal the Chase

 



 


Chasing 221 runs Mumbai Indians were served a dream opening from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. The two took the game completely away from KKR as they combined for a whopping 148 run partnership for the first wicket.


 


Rohit Sharma was in phenomenal form throughout and reached 78 from just 38 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes at an incredible strike rate, reaching his 50 in 23 deliveries. He was supported brillantly by Ryan Rickelton who contributed a wonderful 81 runs from 43 deliveries in an innings of 10 fours and 3 sixes which ensured MI would cruise to victory after falling just short of a brilliant century.


 


MI were already 80 at the end of the power play with no wicket down and went past 100 in just over 8 over, completely dominating the chase.

Late Wickets but MI Finish Comfortably

 


Suryakumar Yadav scored 16 and Tilak Varma 20 runs before a flurry of quick wickets fell. Rickelton was run out 19 runs from a century at MI needed to score 10.5 runs an over and they would win.


 


Captain Hardik Pandya (18) and Naman Dhir (5) ensured Mumbai Indians crossed the line at 221/4 in 19.1 overs winning the game by 6 wickets.


 


The victory marks a special occasion for Mumbai Indians ending their 13-year wait for a victory in their opening match of the tournament.
