Pop star Taylor Swift may just be heading to court, and it's not for the lawsuit linked to her friend, Blake Lively , but her own legal drama.
According to the latest reports, the singer is now facing a lawsuit in California federal court over an alleged ' trademark infringement ' linked to her album title - ' The Life of a Showgirl '. Coming five months after the album was released on October 5, the lawsuit claims that the singer's music album title, infringes on performer and writer Maren Wade 's column titled Confessions of a Showgirl.
About 'Life of a Showgirl' lawsuit
Wade, in her suit, names Swift and UMG Recordings as defendants. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she brings claims for trademark infringement, false designation and unfair competition and seeks unspecified damages as well as an injunction to prevent continued use of the album’s title.
According to the lawsuit, Wade began building her brand in 2014 through a column titled Confessions of a Showgirl, published in Las Vegas Weekly. In the write-up, she drew from her experiences in the entertainment industry. Her trademark covers live stage performances, theatrical productions and TV, among other things.

The legal filings further allege that Swift’s album title is similar, and argues that both are used in connection with the entertainment industry. Wade claims this overlap could mislead audiences into assuming a connection between the two.
Wade alleges that Swift's continued use of the title has 'undermined' her brand, with some fans mistakenly believing she had copied the singer. “A solo performer who spent twelve years building a brand shouldn’t have to watch it disappear because someone bigger came along,” her lawyer said in a statement to the portal.

Swift’s team reportedly applied to register her 'Life of a Showgirl' album title across merchandise and retail channels; however, the United States Patent and Trademark Office declined to register the name, citing potential confusion with Wade’s mark.
The singer is known for maintaining an extensive trademark portfolio, with a reported 170 active or pending registrations tied to her music and business ventures.
In the lawsuit, Swift would likely have to buy out Wade’s claim to the title or get ready to go to court and battle it out.
