Two-time ODI and one-time T20 World Cup winner Steve Smith has just boosted his wealth considerably in a day. The Aussie legend is now Rs. 9 crore richer and it is due to a gamble he made early on. It prove to be a smart investment at the end of the day.

What Was the Gamble?

What did he do? Well, as per nine.com.au, Smith had invested the equivalent of Rs. 64 lakh in 2015 into an Australian bedding and furniture company Koala. This provided him a 10% stake in what was then an emerging online retailer. Now in the last decade, that stake has come down to 3.9% but the value has risen. So when it made its debut at the Australian Securities Exchange, Smith reaped the benefits.

Reaping the Rewards

The company’s listing showed Smith’s stake to be worth Rs. 76.7 crore. The day’s trading saw the share price jump up by 11.7%. As a result, Smith’s holdings now have a value of Rs. 85.7 crore. That means a daily gain of Rs. 9 crore which is just amazing.

Steve Smith Shines Off the Field Too

Smith proved to be a champion off the field as well. The investment he made early on in his career in life outside cricket has rewarded him well after more than 10 years. Just shows how putting the right money in the right place at the right time can pay dividends.

How Long Will Steve Smith Play?

Smith turns 37 this year and it remains to be seen how much longer he plays for Australia. At the moment, the right-hander is playing in the PSL for Multan Sultans. He was not sold in the IPL auction. The man has already retired from ODIs and has not played T20Is since 2024. He’s been in the Australian team for 16 years and is in the twilight of his career.

Steve Smith Is a Modern Legend

The 36-year-old is considered a modern-day legend with the bat and when he does call time, cricket will be poorer for it. He’s considered at par, if not better than the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root.
