Amelia Kerr's 179* propels NZ to record WODI win: Stats

Amelia Kerr played a stunning innings of 179* off just 139 balls as New Zealand chased down South Africa's target of 347 in the second Women's ODI in Wellington.


This marked the highest successful run chase in Women's ODI history.


And Kerr now has the second-highest individual score for New Zealand Women in the format. She also has the top spot with her unbeaten 232.

After losing Suzie Bates in the fifth over, New Zealand found stability through a solid partnership between Kerr and wicketkeeper-batter Isabella Gaze. The White Ferns were down to 130/4 at one stage.


The duo added 120 runs in just 82 balls, with Kerr contributing 47 (34). However, Gaze departed after his explosive knock of 68 (48).


Kerr shifted gears and accelerated the innings. He century came off 90 balls, and she scored another quickfire 79 thereafter.

After Izzy Sharp's dismissal, NZ were staring at a collapse at 290/6. However, Ker's presence and a 7-ball cameo from her sister Jess Kerr kept them in the hunt.


Amelia then single-handedly took NZ to a two-wicket win with two balls to spare. She hammered an unbeaten 179 off 139 balls, a knock laced with 23 fours and a six.




South Africa post a challenging total in Wellington

Earlier, South Africa posted a challenging total of 346 runs after being asked to bat.


They built strong partnerships throughout their innings, with Laura Wolvaardt (69) and Anneke Bosch (91) adding 132 runs for the second wicket.


Chloe Tryon also chipped in with an unbeaten 52 off just 25 balls as South Africa finished their innings well despite Bree Illing's three wickets.

As mentioned, NZ recorded the highest successful run-chase in WODI history. They surpassed India's 339 against Australia in the 2025 WODI World Cup semi-final.


On only two other occasions has a 300-plus total been chased down in the format.


Meanwhile, Amelia Kerr recorded the second-highest individual score in successful run-chases in WODIs. Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu leads this list (195* vs SA, 2024).
