New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant suffered an unfortunate dismissal in the team’s first Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Ekana stadium on Wednesday. Pant, who’s usual batting position was number 3 with LSG last season and number 4 before that, came out as an opener in a surprising move.

But his experiment to open alongside Mitchell Marsh failed as he was run out after scoring just 7 runs off 9 balls which included a boundary after LSG were put into bat first by visitors DC. Pant even failed to play all through the powerplay as the Super Giants skipper lost his wicket on the last ball of the third over being bowled by Mukesh Kumar.

Mukesh bowled a full length delivery to Marsh who drove it back at the Capitals bowler at a good height. Pant who was at the non-striker’s end had started to run. The ball touched Mukesh’s fingertip as he attempted a catch but it kissed his finger and crashed into the stumps. The decision was referred to the third umpire but Pant was found outside the crease.

A challenging 2025 season for Pant

The LSG captain had a difficult season last year as he managed just 269 runs in 14 matches, which raised a finger at his form and commitment. Pant’s form was crticised a lot not only as a batter but as a skipper as well as Super Giants finished seventh in the season. He would be be eager to justify his price tag of Rs 27 crore this edition which he failed to do last season.
