New Delhi: Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs stitched a 119-run partnership to help Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6 wickets in their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Wednesday.
Chasing a score of 142, the Capitals completed the chase in 17.1 overs as both the batters wreaked havoc on the Super Giants bowlers after losing four wickets inside the powerplay. Rizvi proved to be exceptional in his unbeaten 47-ball 70-run score which included 4 massive sixes and 5 boundaries to steer the innings for the Capitals.
Stubbs contributed well on the other end with an unbeaten score of 39 runs off 32 balls which included a lone six and three boundaries. This happened after the Capitals lost the wickets of KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana and skipper Axar Patel early in the innings. While Axar and Rahul were out for a golden duck, Rana could only muster 15 runs while Nissanka scored one run.
For the Super Giants, senior pacer Mohammed Shami bowled well taking a wicket off the first ball of the first over of second innings and gave just 28 runs in his four overs spell. Prince Yadav was the other standout bowler with figures of 2/20 in 3 overs while Mohsin Khan also claimed a wicket but it could not prove enough to stop the Delhi batters.
