Cameron Green’s bowling situation is back in the spotlight as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) gear up for their IPL showdown against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) today. This time, there’s some solid evidence to back the buzz. A video from KKR’s training session has surfaced, showing the Australian all-rounder bowling in the nets, sparking fresh speculation about whether Green might be ready to step in as a bowling option sooner than we thought.

It’s an intriguing development for KKR, especially since Green’s bowling or the lack thereof has been a hot topic in IPL 2026. Just a few days ago, he didn’t bowl a single over in KKR’s opening match against the Mumbai Indians, a game where their bowling attack really struggled to defend a hefty total of 221.

Cameron Green Sidelined from Bowling Due to Back Issue

His absence on the bowling front raised eyebrows, particularly given his hefty price tag of INR 25.20 crore and the significant role he was expected to fill. KKR’s head coach has mentioned that Green is being considered as a potential replacement for Andre Russell in the lineup.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane pointed the finger at Cricket Australia (CA) when asked about Green’s lack of bowling. The board later clarified that the all-rounder is dealing with a lower back issue and is gradually ramping up his bowling workload, with a tentative timeline of 10 to 12 days for a full return.

This makes the video from the nets interesting, but it doesn’t guarantee anything. Bowling in practice is just one step in the recovery process, especially with back issues, and it doesn’t automatically mean he’s ready for match play. Teams are usually cautious in these situations, and KKR is unlikely to rush him back unless he’s given the all-clear.

Interestingly, players like Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are also bowling in the nets, but they haven’t been cleared for IPL action yet. Hazlewood missed the entire Australian summer and the T20 World Cup, while Cummins played just one Ashes Test and was ruled out of the World Cup as well. Nonetheless, the fact that Green is back to bowling is a promising sign. It indicates that his recovery is progressing well and that a return to bowling in matches might be just around the corner.
