Iga Swiatek has announced that she has hired Emma Raducanu's former coach, Francisco Roig. The world No. 3 parted ways with Belgian 'super coach' Wim Fissette last week, the man who was in her corner as she lifted her maiden Wimbledon title last summer. There has since been plenty of speculation that Roig would join Swiatek's camp, and had even been recommended by another one of his former players, Rafael Nadal.

Swiatek recently refused to speak about Nadal's potential involvement, but the Polish star has now confirmed that Roig will be her new coach. It comes just weeks after Raducanu and Roig ended their working relationship, with the British No. 1 later admitting it was Roig who initiated the split.

In an Instagram story shared on Thursday, Swiatek posed for a photo alongside Roig and wrote: "Welcome to the team, Francisco! Very excited for this new chapter."

Roig previously joined Raducanu's team last summer, when her ad-hoc partnership with Mark Petchey came to an end. With the Spanish coach in her corner, Raducanu pushed world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka to a final set tiebreak in a tight defeat at the Cincinnati Open.

They had been set to embark on a pre-season training block in Barcelona, but their plans were wrecked by a foot injury Raducanu picked up, which left her unable to play tennis for around two months. She only started static hitting days before the 2026 season got underway.

Raducanu and Roig announced their split shortly after the 23-year-old lost in the second round of the Australian Open, but maintained a good relationship. Addressing their decision to part ways in Indian Wells last month, Raducanu told Sky Sports: "After Australia, me and Francis were talking. We have a great relationship, we could have a really open and honest conversation.

"He ended up saying, 'Look, I don't think this is going in the way we both want it to', so he ended it really. In a way I think we had a few moments where we weren't agreeing on a few things."

Swiatek has arguably been the toughest opponent on tour for Raducanu. They've faced each other five times, and the Brit has never taken a set off of the six-time Grand Slam champion.

After their most recent meeting at the 2025 French Open, where Swiatek blitzed Raducanu 6-1 6-2, British tennis pundit Annabel Croft suggested they had a "cold" exchange at the net.

"That was quite a cold handshake. There was no warmth there between the two players. It was quite dismissive, almost just a handshake and then a walk off," she told BBC Sport. "Once Iga Swiatek got a breakthrough in this match, she just stamped her authority on it."
