The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have released a video to clarify the interaction between team owner Sanjiv Goenka and captain Rishabh Pant after their IPL 2026 loss to the Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 1.
In their opening match of IPL 2026, LSG faced a six-wicket defeat against DC. After being bowled out for 141 runs, the team could not defend the total, as the Capitals successfully chased down the target of 142 runs with 17 balls remaining. Sameer Rizvi (70 runs off 47 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (39 runs off 32 balls) formed an unbeaten partnership of 119 runs for the fifth wicket, leading Delhi to victory.
LSG's bowlers, including Prince Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Mohsin Khan, initially put pressure on the Delhi Capitals during the powerplay. However, the game shifted when Rizvi and Stubbs stabilized the innings.
After the match, an intense discussion between Goenka and Pant was observed on the field, with head coach Justin Langer and Director of Cricket Tom Moody also present. While the specifics of their conversation remain unclear, it likely revolved around the team's performance.
This intense exchange drew comparisons to a previous incident involving KL Rahul, where Goenka publicly reprimanded him following a significant defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.
Following the viral spread of the video, LSG took to their X handle (formerly Twitter) to share a clarification, showcasing moments of camaraderie between Pant and Goenka, followed by a private discussion with co-owner Shaswant Goenka, Langer, and Moody.
In their post, LSG stated: "Not everything you see is the true story, here’s the unfiltered post-match vibes, when cameras don’t cut."

Despite the clarification video, many fans continued to express skepticism regarding the intensity of the on-field discussion. On social media, cricket enthusiasts voiced their doubts, with some mocking the franchise's attempts to manage the owner's image and questioning the video's authenticity.
Several fans drew parallels to past incidents involving KL Rahul, suggesting that the franchise's efforts to control the narrative only intensified criticism rather than alleviating it.
Comments included: "Only franchise in IPL history who has to keep coming up with videos every time to protect their owner's image" and "No way they re-recorded this. You can clearly see Rishabh is not smiling or laughing while talking."
Others suggested that Goenka should conduct such discussions privately to avoid public scrutiny.
In the previous IPL season, LSG had a disappointing run, finishing seventh with six wins and eight losses, failing to qualify for the playoffs. Following their defeat to Delhi Capitals, the team aims to recover in their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 5.
