Just when it seemed like Rajpal Yadav‘s legal battle might be heading towards some resolution, the situation has taken another unexpected turn. The actor, who was released from Tihar Jailon February 17 in connection with a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce, found himself back in the middle of a complicated courtroom moment. The latest development has people talking because what happened during the hearing is quite something!
In a video shared by the news agency ANI on its official X handle, counsel for the complainant, M/S Murli Projects Private Limited, Avnit Singh Sikka, provided an account of the court proceedings. According to Sikka, the matter was being discussed for final arguments, and the court appeared convinced by the arguments presented. Rajpal Yadav joined the hearing virtually rather than in person. During the proceedings, the court allowed him to close the case, and the actor initially showed a willingness to resolve the issue in accordance with all the terms decided by the court.
Both parties had even agreed on a settlement amount, and the opposing counsel had given his nod on the figure. But when the judge asked how the payment would be made, Rajpal Yadav reportedly changed his position completely, saying he would prefer to go to jail instead and claiming that the payment had already been made earlier. Sikka also stressed that around 21 cases are still pending against the actor and that the court would soon give its verdict on all of them, including whether his sentence would continue.

The roots of this case go back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav took a loan of Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd for his film Ata Pata Laapata. After the film did not perform at the box office, a cheque-bouncing case followed. This led to his conviction in 2018 and a six-month jail sentence, which was upheld in 2019. The dues eventually grew to around Rs 9 crore.
Rajpal Yadav had surrendered to Tihar Jail on February 5 after the Delhi High Court turned down his plea for additional time to repay the amount. He was subsequently granted interim bail after depositing Rs 1.5 crore along with a Rs 1 lakh bond and surety. With 21 cases still pending, the road ahead for the actor legally is clearly going to be a long one!
