Delhi Police has issued an advisory for April 4 in view of the IPL 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. The Delhi Traffic Police has warned of congestion, diversions, and restrictions across key roads near the venue.

In a post on X, the official handle of Delhi Traffic Police flagged heavy traffic movement between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM, urging residents to plan ahead and avoid affected stretches where possible.

Delhi April 4 IPL Match Traffic Advisory

Traffic is expected to build up gradually through the afternoon and intensify closer to match time. The busiest window will be from 1 PM to 9 PM, covering spectator arrivals, match duration, and post-match dispersal. Even after the game ends, delays may continue due to the crowd exiting the stadium.

Authorities have identified several high-traffic corridors that are likely to face significant congestion:

Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg (Delhi Gate to ITO, both sides)
Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (Rajghat to Delhi Gate, both sides)
Asaf Ali Road (Turkman Gate to Delhi Gate)

Motorists are advised to steer clear of these routes and use alternate roads during peak hours.

To ease pressure on match-day traffic, heavy and commercial vehicles will not be allowed on select stretches, including:
  • Daryaganj to Delhi Gate Chowk (BSZ Marg)
  • ITO to Delhi Gate Chowk (BSZ Marg)
  • Delhi Gate Chowk to Guru Nanak Chowk (JLN Marg)
  • Stadium entry routes for spectators
Visitors have been assigned entry points based on their ticketed gates:
  • Gate 1–8 (South Side): Via Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg
  • Gate 10–15 (East Side): Via JLN Marg near Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal
  • Gate 16–18 (West Side): Via BSZ Marg near the petrol pump

Following designated routes will help avoid unnecessary delays.

Parking and Park & Ride facilities
Free parking will be available at:
  • Mata Sundari Road
  • Rajghat Power House Road
  • Velodrome Road

Shuttle buses under the Park & Ride system will operate from these points starting two hours before the match and continue until one hour after it ends.

Parking near the stadium will be restricted to vehicles with valid labels. Designated parking zones include:

P-1: JP Park (Gate 3)
P-2: Vikram Nagar (near Shahidi Park)
P-3: Near JJB/Prayas Office (two-wheelers)
General traffic rules in force
No parking on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg, or Ring Road (Rajghat to I.P. Flyover)
Illegally parked vehicles will be towed and penalised
Advisory for commuters

Delhi Traffic Police has urged the public to avoid affected areas during peak hours and plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time. Commuters have also been advised to use alternate routes where possible. If possible, opt for public transport to reduce road congestion, the advisory added while urging fans to make use of park & ride facilities instead of driving to the stadium.

Additional traffic personnel, barricading, and diversions will be deployed to manage the surge. Authorities have also advised people to stay updated via official traffic channels for real-time alerts on congestion and route changes.

With a high turnout expected for the IPL fixture, careful planning could save you a lot of time—and a fair bit of frustration—on the roads.
