New Delhi: Arshdeep Singh achieved an unwanted record in the IPL as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted 209/5 in 20 overs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, April 3. After being asked to bat first, CSK got off to a poor start as Xavier Bartlett dismissed Sanju Samson for 9 runs in the second over.

Ayush Mhatre took some time in the middle but changed gears after taking a few deliveries. He forged a 96-run partnership with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad for the second wicket, and completed his fifty in 29 balls.

PBKS made a comeback in the match by removing both set batters in consecutive overs. Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed struggling Gaikwad for 28 in the 12th over. Vijaykumar Vyshak removed Ayush Mhatre for 73 in the very next over. After two quick wickets, Sarfaraz Khan scored 32 runs off 12 balls.

Shivam Dube then provided the finishing touches for CSK and scored an unbeaten 45 runs off 27 balls. For PBKS, Vyshak picked up two wickets, while Bartlett, Jansen and Chahal took one each.

Arshdeep Singh achieves unwanted record in IPL

Arshdeep failed to take a wicket against CSK and conceded 41 runs in his four over-spell at an economy rate of 10.20. He has bowled 51 wides in the IPL since 2024, which is the joint most in the tournament alongside Mohammed Siraj. The PBKS pacer also bowled the longest over in the IPL during the match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 31. He bowled 11 deliveries with five wides and a no-ball, conceding 12 runs in the over.

PBKS 95/2 in 9 overs

Chasing the massive target, PBKS got off to a flying start as Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh stitched a 60-run partnership for the opening wicket in just 4 overs. Matt Henry dismissed Priyansh for 39 runs in the fifth over, while Prabhsimran got run out on 43 as CSK made a comeback in the match.
