Located near the Welsh border, this pretty city is perfect for a summer day trip. The city is known for its medieval architecture, relaxed atmosphere and scenic river. Hereford has been called a "hidden gem in England" on a blog called Delve into Europe.

The city is filled with greenery as it is situated in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Hereford is a lesser-known place to spend a weekend, offering a perfect blend of city and countryside. Hereford's high street is filled with independent shops, popular chain stores and a huge range of outdoor and indoor eateries.

Hereford has a plethora of independent shops to explore - from homeware and homemade cakes at Fox and Mabel in the Old Market to Trekkit outdoor shop in a black and white building on Eign Gate.

The Butter Market will make you feel like you're stepping back in time as you buy pasties and comics to sit and enjoy under the clock in the old market hall.

Alongside the high street, one must-visit spot is Hereford Cathedral. Hereford Cathedral is home to a community which has worked and worshipped together continuously for over 1,300 years.

The present building includes examples of architecture, stained glass and art from all periods, which can be further explored with our knowledgeable guides and volunteers.

A visitor on TripAdvisor said: "What an imposing building from both the inside and the outside. Huge pillars, vaulted ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows. Really a sight to behold."

Another place to visit is Berrington Hall which is one of Henry Holland's first houses. You can explore the family rooms and walk in the servants' footsteps down the back stairs, moving around the house unseen by the family and guests.

One visitor on Tripadvisor said: "Had a lovely day out at Berrington Hall. Incredibly interesting house with a fascinating history explained clearly on the various displays throughout.

"Super friendly and knowledgeable guides. Reasonably priced cafe with good food."

If you're looking for a place to visit that's packed with things to do, Hereford is the place to visit this spring or summer.
