New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma’s poor form continued in his side’s clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Sunday. Abhishek was dismissed on a duck as SRH got off to a woeful start after being asked to bat first in the game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Expectations were high from the SRH opening pair as Abhishek opened the innings with Travis Head. However, both batters failed to get going, with Mohammed Shami getting rid of them on successive deliveries. Shami dismissed Abhishek on a two-ball duck on the final ball of the 2nd over before returning to dismiss Head cheaply on 7 off 8 balls on the first ball of his next over.

Abhishek joined an unwanted list after his duck against LSG as he equalled the record for most ducks by an Indian batter in a calendar year in T20s. It was the left-hander’s sixth duck in T20s in 2026, equalling Rohit Sharma (six ducks in 2018) and Sanju Samson (six ducks in 2024) for the most ducks by an Indian in the shortest format.

Most ducks by an Indian in a calendar year in T20s:

Rohit Sharma – Six ducks in 2018

Sanju Samson – Six ducks in 2024

Abhishek Sharma – Six ducks in 2026 so far

Season of ducks for Abhishek Sharma

It has been a season of ducks for Abhishek Sharma, who has been struggling ever since the start of the T20 World Cup 2026 earlier this year. Abhishek headed into the T20 World Cup as the no.1 batter in the format, but failed to live up to the expectations. He was dismissed on a duck for his first three games in a row for India in the tournament.

Abhishek finished the T20 World Cup with a dismal 141 runs in eight matches. His struggles seemed to have followed him to the IPL 2026 as the star batter, who is known for his fearless stroke play, has so far managed only 55 runs in three matches for SRH in the ongoing season.
