Prayagraj, 5 April. Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (UP Board) has issued a strict instruction for the academic session of 2026-27. Under this, it has been made mandatory that all schools across the state use only authorized textbooks for teaching.

According to this order, strict action will be taken against using unauthorized or unrecognized books. This instruction has been issued under the provisions of the ‘Intermediate Education Act’, under which it is mandatory for all government, aided and private schools to follow it.

for main classes NCERT books are mandatory

UP Board has made it mandatory for Class 9 and 10 students to study only from National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) authorized textbooks in core subjects like English, Mathematics and Science. Prescribed books will be followed in total 36 subjects for class 11 and 12.

About 70 NCERT textbooks were put into circulation

In a major step towards standardization, around 70 NCERT textbooks have been brought into circulation across the state. Apart from this, 12 selected books of Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu have also been included in the approved list.

Awareness campaign and affordable access plan

To ensure smooth implementation of the guidelines, schools will organize book awareness camps aimed at informing students and parents about the list of authorized textbooks.

The officials have also assured that to reduce the financial burden on families, these books will be made available at affordable prices. Apart from this, three agencies have been authorized for printing and distribution of textbooks, so that the supply chain runs smoothly.

Strict monitoring in all districts

District and divisional level officials have been instructed to keep a close watch on the implementation of this order. The Board has made it clear that any deviation from the prescribed norms will not be tolerated. With this move, the UP Board aims to bring uniformity and transparency in the education system, and reinforce the message that from now on only approved and standardized learning materials will be promoted.
