BCCI Master Plan: Cricket has a different importance in India. Similarly, cricketers are also given equal respect. As different formats came, the nature of cricket changed but still Test cricket is given equal respect in India. Test cricket is currently going through a transitional phase as senior players like Rohit, Kohli and Ashwin have retired from the game. After that, Test cricket is being given a different form. BCCI is also preparing to set up a well-organized system. The board aims to improve the fundamental aspects of the game, to ensure positive results. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who recently turned 15, is also included in the scheme.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who came into limelight with a scintillating innings in the IPL, has also impressed with his performances in Under-19 and domestic cricket. Therefore, after this, the demand to give him a place in ‘Team India’ is now gaining momentum. Apart from Vaibhav, BCCI has also planned a special plan to develop other players like Ayush Mhatre and Sameer Rizvi. The initiative is spearheaded by BCCI’s ‘Centre of Excellence’.
According to a PTI report, the BCCI is all set to organize a four-day tournament in June-July. In which 64 players will participate. The tournament will feature players under the age of 25 and the matches will be played on a variety of pitches. The main objective of this tournament will be to test the technique, inherent skill and temperament of the players. Through this tournament, BCCI aims to build a strong talent pool for the Test team for the next decade. Among the participating players, 25 players will be selected from Ranji and domestic cricket, while the other 25 players will be selected from junior group cricket, particularly C.K. It will be done from Naidu Trophy and Cooch Behar Trophy. The remaining players will be selected from the IPL.
The role of Indian cricket team’s head coach and chief selector will be very important in this process; This underlines how important this initiative is for the future of ‘Team India’. According to reports, the performance in this tournament will also be taken into account while selecting the team for various future campaigns. The 19th season of IPL is currently underway; After the tournament, the Indian Under-19 and Emerging teams will tour Sri Lanka to play four-day matches.
Under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir, the Indian team excelled in ODIs (ODIs) and T20s (T20s); However, the team could not achieve much success in ‘red-ball cricket’ (in Test cricket). Team India, unbeaten at home for the last 12 years, suffered defeats in Test series against both New Zealand and then South Africa.
