The signing ceremony, held in Hanoi on April 4, was attended by senior leadership from both institutions. Representing Viet Duc University Hospital were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Duc Hung, Director of the Hospital, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Nghia, Director of the Transplant Center, along with leading experts.


Representing Hanoi French Hospital were Dr. Erwan Debuc, general director and chief medical officer; Magnus Ericsson, deputy general director; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Thanh Quang, deputy medical director; and Dr. Nguyen Quang Hien, deputy medical director, together with members of the leadership team and senior specialists.

At the event, Hanoi French Hospital presented an overview of its strategic direction, clinical expertise, and healthcare services. In recent years, the hospital has expanded investment in key specialties including obstetrics and pediatrics, cardiology, stroke care, oncology, intensive care, and trauma management, while strengthening international cooperation to align with global standards.


Dr. Debuc said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to improving care quality, advancing clinical capabilities, and delivering effective treatment solutions, including for complex cases. He added that the partnership would go beyond patient referrals to include knowledge exchange and on-site capacity building.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Duc Hung noted that Viet Duc University Hospital, as a leading surgical center, places strong emphasis on professional collaboration and technology transfer to enhance healthcare capacity. He said the agreement would facilitate access to advanced medical services for patients and strengthen cooperation between the two institutions.


“Both hospitals share the same goal of improving the quality of medical examination and treatment for patients. This common objective forms the basis for our cooperation,” he said.


Under the agreement, the two hospitals will coordinate on training, professional consultations, and treatment guidance for complex cases, as well as staff exchanges for clinical support.

The partnership also includes collaboration in developing key specialized departments in line with each institution’s strategy.


A case highlighted at the event was Vietnam’s first combined heart-liver transplant with domino liver transplantation, performed by Viet Duc University Hospital for a patient initially diagnosed at Hanoi French Hospital.


The 53-year-old patient was identified with hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis following clinical evaluation, genetic testing, and biopsy analysis at Hanoi French Hospital, providing the basis for treatment planning.

Representatives from Viet Duc University Hospital acknowledged the diagnostic contributions of Hanoi French Hospital’s medical team, including Dr. Sabrina Stefanizzi and Dr. Pham Thu Thuy.


Hanoi French Hospital said it would continue supporting consultations and genetic testing for the patient’s family to enable early detection and treatment where necessary.


The ceremony included professional exchanges between the two sides and is expected to support improvements in healthcare service quality through closer integration of expertise, technology, and coordinated clinical practices.
