It is mandatory to install panic button in buses

The department has instructed all the bus operators of the state to install panic buttons and VLTD devices in their buses. It has also been said that these devices should not be just for show, but should also work properly. If these devices are found to be in violation of the deadlines or do not work, it will be considered a technical defect. In such a situation, both the fitness certificate and permit of the bus will be cancelled.
At the same time, the Transport Department has also clarified that if the location of any bus does not reach the command center of the department, then it will also be considered a violation of the rules. In such cases also, both the permit and fitness of the bus will be cancelled. Apart from this, the department has directed RTO officers and employees to conduct intensive inspection of buses in this regard within the limits of their jurisdiction at least two days a week.
The department says that just installing devices in buses is not enough, but it is also mandatory for them to function properly. Besides, it is also necessary for these devices to be continuously connected to the server. The department has clarified that this will require a control room, technical staff and 24/7 monitoring system, but these have not been fully prepared yet. According to the department, without these arrangements, it will be a big challenge to operate the panic button or VLTD of buses properly.
Keeping in view the field situation, Madhya Pradesh Transport Department will form joint teams of Transport Department, Police and Executive Magistrate. The main work of these teams will be to monitor and check the buses. If during inspection the buses are found to have extra seats than the capacity or illegal body extension, the bus will be immediately confiscated under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
