The much-anticipated clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings for IPL 2026 in Eden Gardens could not see the light of day because of the rain that prevented the continuation of the game. The cricket fans looked forward to the match that lasted only for some overs before being abandoned.
After just a handful of overs, the rain intervened, making it difficult to understand the approach taken by both sides, and the match never got to a stage where strategies or momentum could be assessed.
Knight Riders had come under immense pressure due to their defeat in the previous two matches. However, the rainfall prevented them from staging an immediate comeback. Punjab Kings seemed to perform very well during the little time they got to bat.

Watch: Prabhsimran Hits Bartlett Instead of Stumps
Although the match was cut short, fans were treated to a memorable moment. The funny mix-up between Punjab Kings wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh and bowler Xavier Bartlett stood out during the game.
It all began during the second over. Finn Allen attempted a scoop, only to miss the ball which ricocheted off his body and looped over. Not aware of the ball's trajectory, he attempted a single.
On noticing this, Prabhsimran rushed from behind the stumps, picked up the ball and threw it at the stumps. To his and everyone else's surprise, Xavier Bartlett rushed in and took the brunt of the throw. Both players and fans erupted in laughter as they were both amused.

Later in the over, following the comical situation, Bartlett bounced back in fine form and removed Finn Allen just a few deliveries later. In the same over, he also bagged the wicket of Cameron Green, putting the Knight Riders under early pressure.
KKR were struggling at 25/2 in just 3.4 overs when the rain started to pour down again. The pitch seemed to be favoring fast bowlers, and Punjab Kings appeared to have an upper hand on the game.
However, the rainfall refused to stop, and the game was cancelled. Both the teams had to split their points. Though the audience missed out on a full-fledged game of cricket, it was certainly worth watching the funny show put up by Prabhsimran and Bartlett.
