The much-awaited sequel to the cult horror-fantasy Tumbbad is officially underway. A motion poster for Tumbbad 2: Pralay Aayega has been unveiled by actor-producer Sohum Shah and director Adesh Prasad, confirming that the film has gone on floors.
Announcing the movie, Sohum Shah in a post on X, wrote, "Every saint has a past. Every sinner has a future. The legacy of sin returns, the cycle of greed continues… Welcome to the world of TUMBBAD, once again!"
The project was first announced in 2024 and has remained one of the most anticipated follow-ups in the genre. Unlike the original, which was directed by Rahi Anil Barve with Anand Gandhi as creative director, Tumbbad 2 is being helmed by Adesh Prasad.
The film was launched with a traditional mahurat shot in Mumbai, attended by prominent industry figures including Boney Kapoor and producer Dr. Jayantilal Gada. The scale of the project is evident from the start, with filming currently taking place on a sprawling 7–8 acre set designed to resemble an entire city.
Sohum Shah returns to lead the sequel, while Nawazuddin Siddiqui is also said to be part of the film, further heightening excitement around the project.
The sequel has gained momentum after Tumbbad saw a successful theatrical re-release in 2024, introducing the film to a wider audience and renewing demand for a second chapter. The original film, released in 2018, went on to achieve cult status for its unique blend of horror, folklore, and fantasy storytelling.
Meanwhile, prosthetic designer Shaune Harrison has hinted at the film’s ambitious visual approach, revealing that extensive makeup work is being used to create multiple looks for a key character, along with separate designs for stunt and body doubles to maintain continuity.
With production now in full swing, Tumbbad 2 has entered its next phase, and more updates from the sets are expected in the coming months.
