Guwahati, 7 April. A day ago, if the heavy rain in Kolkata had washed out a match (Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings) for the first time in the current season of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL-19), then on Tuesday a similar situation was visible at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium here. But after the rain stopped, the 11-11 overs match with reduced overs started about three and a half hours later than scheduled, and a storm started raining from the bat of Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Jaiswal scored unbeaten 77 runs in just 32 balls.

After the second consecutive mighty half-century (77 not out, 32 balls, four sixes, 10 fours) of this 24-year-old ace batsman from Bhadohi, the bowlers completed the rest of the work with their tenacity. What happened next, Rajasthan Royals (RR) continued their unbeaten streak and defeated five-time former champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 27 runs and once again topped the points table with their third consecutive win.

With the strong partnership of Yashasvi-Vaibhav, the team reached 150 in 11 overs.

Rajasthan Royals, invited to bat first on Rajasthan’s second home ground, scored a huge score of 150 runs for three wickets in 11 overs with the help of a blazing 80-run partnership in just 30 balls between ‘Player of the Match’ Yashasvi and his teenage opening partner Vaibhav Suryavanshi (39 runs, 14 balls, five sixes, one four).

Mumbai team could reach 123 in front of Berger, Bishnoi and Sandeep.

In response, the Mumbai Indians batsmen, who came up with a tough target of around 14 runs per over, could not withstand the pressure of the opposition bowlers and Nandre Berger (2-21), Ravi Bishnoi (2-25), Sandeep Sharma (2-26), Jofra Archer (1-17) and Tushar Deshpande (1-29) allowed Hardik Pandya and company to reach only 123 runs for nine wickets.

Mumbai Indians’ second defeat in three matches

Rajasthan Royals have a maximum of six points in their account with their third consecutive win. This team has defeated another former five-time winner Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and then Gujarat Titans (GT) in the previous two matches. This was the second consecutive defeat of Mumbai Indians in three matches. In its first match, it had defeated KKR at home, but then in the national capital, it had to lose to Delhi Capitals.

Mumbai’s top 5 batsmen had returned on 46 runs.

If we look at the batting of Mumbai team, under deep pressure, five top batsmen had returned within 46 runs in the first five overs and among them only Tilak Verma (14 runs, 10 balls, two fours) could reach double figures while Ryan Rickelton (eight runs), Rohit Sharma (five runs), Suryakumar Yadav (six runs) and captain Hardik (nine runs) disappointed.

Naman Dheer and Rutherfort added 47 runs on 17 balls.

Ultimately, Naman Dhir (25 runs, 13 balls, one six, three fours) and Sherfane Rutherford (25 runs, eight balls, two sixes, two fours) gave hope with a partnership of 47 runs on 17 balls, but Deshpande broke the partnership by returning Rutherford and then the line was set again.

Yashasvi and Vaibhav gave away 59 runs in the powerplay of 3.2 overs.

Before this, Rajasthani opener Yashasvi and his 15 year old colleague Vaibhav started attacking as soon as they landed. It can be easily guessed that due to reduction in overs, 59 runs had been scored in the rescheduled powerplay of 3.2 overs.

Yashasvi completed his half-century in 23 balls

Shardul Thakur, who had given up 36 runs in just two overs, returned Vaibhav on the last ball of the fifth over, while Dhruv Jurel (two runs) also became the victim of AM Ghazanfar (2-21) in the very next over. But Parag (20 runs, 10 balls, two sixes, one four) showed his sharp hand and supported Yashasvi. In this sequence, Yashasvi completed his fifty in 23 balls by hitting a four on Pandya and the team scored 100 runs in 7.3 overs.

score card

When Ghazanfar dismissed Parag in the ninth over, 121 runs were left on the board. On the other hand, in the presence of Shimron Hetmyer (six runs not out), Yashasvi continued his attack and in the 11th and last over of nine balls including three wides, he scored 18 runs including four fours and took the team to 150, pressure from which the Mumbai team could not recover.
