According to recent research, men who keep mobile in their pocket for a long time or work with laptop in their lap may be deprived of the happiness of becoming a father. What does research say?

A research conducted at Calcutta University and Institute of Reproductive Medicine has claimed that keeping a mobile phone in the pant pocket for a long time and working with a laptop in the lap can affect a man’s fertility. Besides, the risk of becoming impotent in men can also increase manifold. In the research, sperm samples of 1200 men aged between 20 to 40 years were taken. Apart from this, their lifestyle, drinking habits and eating habits were studied in depth. According to research, about 708 men had azoospermia while 640 men had normal sperm count.

The study was going on for 5 years

This study was started in 2019 under the leadership of Professor Sujay Ghosh. According to the research paper, people coming to IRM for treatment of male infertility were invited to take part in the study. During this time, couples facing problems in conceiving a child due to female infertility and cases of male infertility were not included in it.

Keeping mobile for a long time can be dangerous

If you keep your mobile in your pocket or laptop in your lap for 5-6 hours, then your dream of becoming a father may remain unfulfilled. According to the study, keeping a laptop in the lap or mobile in the pants creates a high intensity electromagnetic field. Prolonged exposure of the testicles to such areas causes significant damage to the delicate internal tissues. Due to which the sperm producing tissues get damaged. This situation is especially worrying for young men, who use such electronic devices the most. This number is gradually increasing with time.

The problem increases due to heat

Keeping a laptop on the leg for hours generates heat in it, due to which the internal temperature increases due to heat falling on the sac below the penis and testicles. Due to this, the sperm there start getting destroyed and impotence increases.

Men should take these precautions

• -If you use laptop for hours then take breaks in between and walk.


• -Avoid working continuously with laptop on your feet.


• -Use table and chair while working.


• -Do not keep mobile in pants pocket. Instead, hold the mobile in your hand or use a mobile holder.


• -Keep your mobile away from you when not in use.


• -Do not fully charge the mobile.
