Tesla Model Y India sales FY 2026: A large part of the country is now moving towards electric cars. People are buying electric cars instead of vehicles running on petrol and diesel. Tesla entered India in the month of July 2025. The showroom was opened with much fanfare in Mumbai. Although the sale here started from the month of September. But nothing has happened in India as Tesla had hoped. This is because the company has been able to sell only 342 cars in the last 7 months of sales.

Tesla also launched Model Y along with the opening of its showroom in Mumbai. The starting price of which was fixed at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). According to the data so far, Tesla has sold an average of 43 cars every month in India.

Which cars is Tesla selling in India?

At present Tesla is selling only its Model Y car in India. This car is very popular and is seen as an affordable option for the people. In the coming time, the company plans to launch Model 3, S or Cybertruck in the market. Tesla’s first showroom has opened in Mumbai, after which the second showroom is likely to open in Delhi soon.

Tesla could not compete?

When Tesla entered India, it was believed that this car would compete with local companies like Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. But nothing like this has happened. The sales of these companies are many times more than Tesla. Whereas Tesla is not even able to get customers.

The biggest challenge for Tesla in India is its price. The price of Model Y in India is around Rs 60–70 lakh. Whereas the price of the same car is about Rs 30 lakh less in America. People believe that if they buy a car from some other company instead, it will be much cheaper. Tesla has only one model, which has not been updated for a long time. There are many reasons which are affecting sales.
