Gujarat Titans may have registered a spectacular victory in the thrilling match of IPL 2026, but after the match, the happiness remained incomplete for team captain Shubhman Gill. Gill has been fined ₹12 lakh despite winning a close match against Delhi.

This penalty was imposed due to slow over-rate (slow bowling speed), which is considered to be the team’s first mistake this season.

✓ A thrilling match, the game lasted till the last ball

In this match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Gujarat Titans batted first and scored a big score of 210/4.

In reply, Delhi Capitals made a great start and dragged the match till the last over. The victory was decided on the last ball, where Gujarat won the match by just 1 run.

💸 Why was Shubman Gill fined?

According to IPL rules, if a team is unable to complete its overs in the stipulated time, then it is considered guilty of slow over-rate.

  • This was Gujarat Titans’ first mistake of the season

  • Therefore, a fine of ₹12 lakh was imposed on captain Shubhman Gill.

  • No penalty was imposed on other players of the team this time

Under the new rules of IPL, the method of punishment has also changed, in which fine is being given priority.

📊 If the mistake is repeated in the future, the fine will increase.

If the team commits the mistake of slow over-rate again, the punishment will become more severe:

  • Second mistake:
    Captain fined ₹24 lakh
₹12 lakh or 25% match fee on each player of playing XI

  • Third mistake:
    Captain fined ₹30 lakh
Heavy financial penalty on the entire team

However, this time by changing the rules, the one match ban for the third mistake has been removed.

After Delhi’s strong start, the match seemed to be completely in their favor. But Rashid Khan changed the course of the match with his brilliant bowling.

He took 3 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs and completely destroyed Delhi’s middle order.

  • Nitish Rana out

  • Sameer Rizvi sent on golden duck

  • Axar Patel was also returned to the pavilion

His bowling proved to be the biggest decider of this match.

The most exciting moment of the match came in the last over, when Delhi needed 13 runs to win.

David Miller almost won the match for Delhi by batting brilliantly.

  • 8 runs were needed in the last 3 balls

  • Miller made the equation easier by hitting a brilliant six

But then an important decision became the turning point of the match—Miller refused to take a single on the second last ball.

On the last ball, he missed the slow ball of Prasidh Krishna and while trying to take a run, Kuldeep Yadav was run out. In this way Delhi stopped at 209/8 and Gujarat won the match by 1 run.

This victory was as important as it was educational for Gujarat Titans. While the team performed brilliantly under pressure, mistakes like slow over-rate cost captain Shubman Gill dearly.

Now it remains to be seen whether the team is able to improve its performance by learning from these mistakes or not.
