Delhi. The Indian men’s national football team will take part in the Unity Cup 2026, a four-nation friendly tournament to be held from May 26 to 30 in London. This tournament will be played at ‘The Valley’, the home ground of Charlton Athletic Football Club located in London. This four-nation friendly tournament will feature India, Nigeria, Jamaica and Zimbabwe.


India will face Jamaica in the second semi-final on May 27. The first semi-final between Nigeria and Zimbabwe will be played on 26 May. The winning team of the semi-finals will face the final on May 30. The Indian team will return to this tournament after 24 years.


India last played in Britain in 2002, when they played two friendly matches against Jamaica, losing 0–3 in Watford and a goalless draw in Wolverhampton. India have never faced Nigeria and Zimbabwe before.


AIFF Deputy Secretary General M. Satyanarayana said, “We, at the All India Football Federation, are very pleased that the Indian men’s national team is returning to the United Kingdom after 24 years, and it is especially special for us that we are taking part in an international football tournament in the UK for the first time.


This tournament gives the Indian team a valuable opportunity to play against strong and respected teams like Nigeria, Jamaica and Zimbabwe. Facing teams with a rich history in football.


This includes teams that have participated in the FIFA World Cup and have consistently ranked among the top teams in their respective continents. This will provide valuable experience and learning to our players as we move towards preparing our team for the future.” He said, “Opportunities to play against such quality teams are rare, and we are committed to taking full advantage of this platform.


So that we can test ourselves, learn and continue our development at the international level. We thank the organizers for giving us this opportunity and look forward to an exciting and competitive tournament.” According to FIFA’s latest men’s world rankings, India are ranked 136th in the world. Among the other participating teams, Nigeria are ranked 26th, Jamaica 71st and Zimbabwe 130th, underscoring the level of competition the ‘Blue Tigers’ will face.
