New Delhi: Brazilian fast bowler Laura Cardoso etched her name in the record books by becoming the first player in T20I cricket (men’s/women’s) to pick up 9 wickets in a single innings. Delivering a remarkable spell against Lesotho, Cardoso finished with brilliant figures of 9/4 from her three over registering the best bowling figures in the shortest format.

The accolade, which was achieved at the BCA Kalahari Women’s T20I Tournament at Botswana Cricket Association Oval 2 in Gaborone, left all the cricketing fans stunned as something of this sort was never expected to be registered.

By virtue of this gigantic record, Cardoso surpassed the previous record held by Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshey, who had claimed eight wickets for just seven runs against Myanmar in a men’s T20I in 2025. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cardoso surpassed Indonesia’s Rohmalia Rohmalia’s figures of 7/0 against Mongolia in 2024 in women’s T20Is.
