A minor fire broke out on Thursday evening at Terminal 1 (T1) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, reportedly due to a short circuit. The incident occurred around 6:10 pm in the 1-B Circle area on the ground floor of the domestic terminal.
While the fire remained confined to the ground floor, smoke spread to the upper levels, prompting authorities to relocate passengers as a precaution. Emergency teams, including the airport's aerodrome rescue and firefighting unit and the Mumbai Fire Brigade, responded swiftly. The blaze was classified as a Level-1 fire and was brought under control within minutes.
Officials said the fire originated in a heavy wire duct within the terminal's electrical infrastructure, briefly affecting internet services. Despite the incident,airport operations continued without disruption, and no injuries or casualties were reported.
Cooling operations continued until around 9:20 pmas technical teams assesseddamage to electrical systems, including wiring, cables, panels, and installations in the ground-floor power house.
