New Delhi: Liverpool defender Andy Robertson will leave the club at the end of the ongoing season after nine years at Anfield. The Scottish international has won two Premier League trophies, a Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017.
His contract expires at the end of the current season, and has lost his first-team spot in the ongoing campaign after the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Liverpool, in a statement, said that Robertson will be a club legend after playing a crucial role in the successes of recent years over the course of his 373 appearances to date.
“After nine hugely successful campaigns at Anfield, the Scotland captain will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer,” Liverpool said. The 32-year-old has made just 15 starts in the 2025-26 season. The news of Robertson’s departure from the club came after Egypt forward Mohamed Salah announced that he too will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Robertson told the club’s website that it’s never easy to leave Liverpool, as it has been a huge part of his family’s life for the last 9 years. The defender further added that but for him, players move on, people move, but the club and fans stay the same.
“I’ve had an amazing nine years here. Look, I think it has been well-documented, especially over the last year or so, I’ve had opportunities to leave and I’ve not taken them because of how difficult it is to leave this club. And I wouldn’t change that for the world,” he said.
Robertson further added that he’ll always look back on amazing memories at Liverpool, and has put his heart and soul into the club for nine years, and has not many regrets.
“But I know football moves on, I know teams move on and I think now is the time for me to move on and go wherever my next move is and wherever my career takes me. This club will always mean the world to me, the fans will mean the world to me. It has been a hell of a journey,” Robertson added.
Liverpool are placed fifth in the Premier League standings and will face Fulham at Anfield on Saturday, April 11. Arne Slot’s side endured a difficult campaign this season, losing 4-0 against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarterfinal, followed by a 2-0 loss against PSG in the last eight of the Champions League.
