India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House on Thursday (April 10). During this, both the countries reviewed the major aspects of bilateral relations amid the changing global scenario and emphasized on further strengthening cooperation. The meeting was part of Misri’s three-day visit to the US, in which he met top US officials in Washington DC and held wide-ranging discussions on issues such as trade, defence, critical minerals and Indo-Pacific strategy.


Rubio will come to India next month:

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore was also present in this meeting. Describing the talks as constructive, he said that the US Secretary of State is planning to visit India next month. Sergio Gore wrote on social media platform



Focus on defense and trade cooperation:

During the meeting both sides discussed ways to further deepen defense and trade ties. Besides, views were also exchanged on the ongoing developments in Indo-Pacific and West Asia. Misri also met with Under Secretaries Elbridge Colby and Michael Duffy at the US Department of Defense. During this, detailed discussions were held on regional security, defense cooperation and strategic partnership.


Important meetings also with Commerce Department:

The Foreign Secretary also held discussions with senior US Commerce Department officials Jeffrey Kessler and William Kimmitt, emphasizing opportunities for economic cooperation and investment.


The Indian Embassy said that in the meetings held at the Pentagon, special attention was paid to the latest developments in the Indo-Pacific region and West Asia.


Quad and critical minerals become strategic centres:

In this high-level talk, emphasis was also laid on cooperation under the Quad group and strengthening the supply chain of critical minerals.


According to experts, in the changing global situation, both India and America are working towards deepening the strategic partnership, especially to maintain balance in the Indo-Pacific region.


Growing partnership amid changing global equations:

This meeting has taken place at a time when the world is going through many geopolitical tensions. In such a situation, the increasing cooperation between India and America is considered important from the point of view of global strategic balance.
