Tezzbuzz Desk- Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Verma has submitted his resignation to the President. This step has come at a time when the ongoing impeachment process against him was reaching its final stage. This whole matter came to light after allegations of recovery of huge amount of cash from his official residence in Delhi last year.

The case is of March 14, 2025, when after a fire broke out in Justice Verma’s official residence in Delhi, it was claimed that half-burned cash was found in a storeroom. At that time he was in Bhopal with his wife. After this incident, serious questions were raised at the judicial and administrative level and the process of investigation was started.

Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the process of impeachment was initiated against him in the Parliament. In August 2025, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted the impeachment motion with the signatures of 146 MPs and a three-member inquiry committee was formed.

The inquiry committee in its report considered the allegations serious, after which further action was sent to the President and Prime Minister’s Office.

In March 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his transfer to Allahabad High Court. After this, a three-member inquiry committee was formed under the leadership of the Chief Justice (CJI), which investigated the allegations. The internal investigation found the allegations to be largely true.

Justice Verma had challenged the constitutionality of the internal investigation in the Supreme Court, but the court rejected it in August 2025. The court said that no serious irregularities were found in the investigation process.

Now with his resignation, this matter has reached a new turn. Although the impeachment process was going on, all eyes are on the further legal and constitutional process after his resignation.

At present, this case is being seen as an important development in judicial history, which has sparked a major debate on the transparency and accountability of the judiciary.
