Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government is going to take a big step towards strengthening the transport facilities in rural areas. Under the Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Yojana, preparations to connect the villages of the state with public bus service have now intensified. If all the processes are completed on time, then operation of mini buses can be started on rural roads from the month of May.

The main objective of this scheme is to provide transportation facilities to those villages where regular bus services are not yet available. This will provide great convenience to the villagers to reach the block, tehsil and district headquarters. Especially students, patients and people traveling for daily work will get direct benefits from it.

Application Process and Selection

A total of 1003 applications were received under this scheme from all the 20 areas of the Transport Corporation. Of these, 286 applications have been selected after preliminary scrutiny. The remaining applications are being examined by the committees formed under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate, instructions have been given to complete them within the stipulated time.

Government preparations intensified

In the recent meeting of the Transport Department, officials were instructed to complete all the necessary formalities by the end of April. The government is trying to start the operation of buses from May without any delay and the villagers should get its benefits as soon as possible.

Under this scheme, private mini buses with 15 to 28 seats will be operated. These buses will be specially designed keeping in mind the rural routes, so that the service can run smoothly even on short routes and areas with low passenger numbers.

With the start of mini bus service, both the time and expense required for people from villages to travel to cities will be reduced. Also, access to education, health and employment opportunities will also become easier. This scheme can also prove helpful in boosting the rural economy.
