Health Desk: A shocking revelation has come to light in the new research. Researchers at the University of Chicago in the US have found that zeaxanthin, a plant-based compound commonly known for eye health, may also play an important role in fighting cancer.

This study has been published in the prestigious journal Cell Reports Medicine. According to research, zeaxanthin can strengthen the body’s anti-cancer ability by increasing the activity of important cells of the immune system, especially CD8+ T cells.

Researchers found that the compound improves T-cell receptor (TCR) signaling, allowing immune cells to more effectively recognize and destroy cancer cells. Laboratory and animal tests have shown that zeaxanthin can slow tumor growth and increase the effectiveness of immunotherapy.

Jing Chen, senior author of the study, said that this discovery is very surprising, because zeaxanthin was previously known only for eyesight and health, but now it also seems to play a potential role in strengthening cancer immunity.

Research also found that when zeaxanthin was combined with modern cancer immunotherapy drugs, the body’s anti-tumor response became more effective. According to scientists, this supplement may be useful as an adjunctive option for cancer treatment in the future.

Zeaxanthin is found naturally in foods like spinach, kale, and bell peppers and is already considered a safe dietary supplement. However, researchers have clarified that this study is still in its initial stage and human clinical trials are required.
