Patna. To protect and strengthen the heritage of the freedom movement, goodwill, democracy and the values of the Constitution, the Yatra started with an all-religion prayer at the Mahila Charkha Committee, the residence of Jayaprakash Narayan in Patna on Friday morning.
On this occasion, Sarva Seva Sangh President Chandan Pal, while addressing the passengers, said that the country and the world are facing many types of challenges. A systematic effort is going on in the country to destroy the liberal tradition and heritage of Sufi saints, goodwill, democracy and constitutional values. Similarly, the tendencies of establishing dominance at the global level and plundering natural resources have posed a serious threat to peace.
He said that at one time this place had become an active center for the defense of India’s democracy. We are also starting this journey by making those memories our resolutions. Gandhi’s inspiration and values are the source of establishing world humanity. Considering this as our heritage, we have set out on this journey. ‘Jahan Pade Kadam Gandhi Ke’ Yatra is an extension of ‘Ek Kadam Gandhi Ke Saath’. The unique aim of the Yatra is to make the society a partner in this expansion.
After the all-religious prayer, at 10 in the morning the pilgrims reached Anugrah Narayan Singh Institute of Social Studies on foot. ‘Gandhi Samvad’ was organized under the joint aegis of Anugrah Narayan Singh Institute of Social Studies, Sarva Seva Sangh and Pradesh Sarvodaya Mandal Bihar, the theme of which was – ‘The message of Champaran Satyagraha and today’s time’.
Senior writer Dr. Sujata Chaudhary said in her address that Mahatma Gandhi’s journey from Patna to Champaran was not just a political movement, but a great path of truth, loyalty and purification of conduct. Here Gandhiji, with his pure conduct, inspired veteran lawyers like Anugrah Narayan Singh and Rajendra Prasad to give up comfortable life and adopt self-service and simplicity.
He underlined that Gandhiji not only challenged the exploitative system like ‘Tinkathiya’, but also understood the pitiful condition of the ‘last people’ of the society and women. Even after hearing the pain of having only one saree among three women, he himself decided to wear minimum clothes. Dr. Sujatha emphasized that the struggle of farmers like Rajkumar Shukla teaches us that only when we stand against injustice with purity and truth, we can achieve real freedom and self-respect.
Economist and former director of Anugrah Narayan Singh Institute of Social Studies, D.M. Diwakar said that when Mahatma Gandhi came to Champaran, he told the court that he had come to establish justice; If it is a crime, they admit it. He laid a strong foundation for preparing workers. People coming from big families were also motivated to work like ordinary workers. To properly understand the problems of the farmers, written statements of about 8000 farmers were recorded and several copies of them were made. On the basis of this evidence, a letter was written to the authorities. Gandhiji believed that one should present his views with evidence and not just by making claims. His fight was not against any individual, but against the unjust system.
Uttar Pradesh Sarvodaya Mandal President Ramdheeraj said that lakhs of people stood up in Champaran with the power of non-violence. Today again there is a threat to democracy, common man, heritage and institutions. Whoever writes or speaks against the government, efforts will be made to sideline him. In such a time, every countryman should fearlessly protect his rights and democracy.
Sarva Seva Sangh President Chandan Pal said that Gandhiji talked about taking all religions together. He gave the ideal of simple life in contrast to the corporate culture. His thoughts had the spirit of Antyodaya and the principle of trusteeship. He talked about fearlessness and peace – where peace means absence of fear. He showed the path of Satyagraha. In the times to come, new technologies, such as AI, may also bring challenges, hence Gandhi’s ideas become even more important to save humanity.
Apart from this, Shri Girija Satish (National President, Lok Samiti) said that Gandhi had chosen an ideal fast for building an individual and nation, which started from Champaran.
Apart from this, other speakers including Sushil Kumar, Karu, Vijendra Yadav, Rama Ranjan Prasad Singh and Shahid Kaman also expressed their views.
A special issue of Sarvodaya Jagat Patrika was published regarding the yatra, which was released today. Apart from this, the book ‘The Tatvik Basis of Gandhi Darshan’ written by Sarvodaya Jagat editor and sociologist Vimal Kumar was also released today.
‘Gandhi Samvad’ was welcomed by the organizer of the yatra, Ashok Bharat and conducted by Pradeep Priyadarshi.
The journey started from Gandhi Camp at 4 pm. It was at this place that Gandhi stayed for months in 1947 for communal harmony. While walking on foot, the pilgrims reached near Patna College, where they were welcomed by social worker Anjali and her team.
The journey progressed further and reached Gandhi Ghat, the last stop of the day. There is Bihar unit of National Youth Scheme and G.N. Neeraj and his team associated with the academy and school children warmly welcomed the passengers. After this, all religion prayer and meeting was organized at 6 pm.
