New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals (RR) team manager Romi Bhinder has come under the scanner for using a mobile phone during the IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
The incident was first shared on social media and has been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), prompting a potential disciplinary review against him. According to a PTI report, Bhinder has violated the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) protocol, which strictly bans the use of mobile phones in the dugout during a match.
While the phones are allowed in the dressing room, their usage in the dugout is considered a breach of protocols under anti-corruption guidelines. He has been associated with the franchise since its beginning, and was expected to be fully aware of the anti-corruption rules.
A BCCI official confirmed to PTI that Bhinder has breached the PMOA protocols, as phones are banned in the dugout during the match.
“It could be inadvertent but there has to be some action since it amounts to breach. Whether it will be warning or match ban will depend on match referee and ACU report. Based on that IPL GC can take a call,” the BCCI official told PTI.
He could face additional scrutiny, especially after RR’s young batter Sooryavanshi referred to him as his “local guardian” during the post-match presentation after the RCB clash.
The ACU is set to investigate the matter, and Bhinder could face a hefty fine or a temporary suspension from the PMOA, which could restrict his access to both the dugout and dressing room during matches.
Rajasthan Royals are currently placed at the top of the IPL 2026 points table after winning all four games. The Riyan Parag-led side defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 8 wickets in their opening match in Guwahati, and then registered victories against Gujarat Titans (GT), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). They will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, April 13.
