New Delhi: The government is set to increase the total number of seats in the Lok Sabha. At present, there are 530 seats for states and 20 for union territories, but the Union government has proposed implementing the Women’s Reservation Bill, and the House could witness a significant increase in the seats.
The total number of seats would increase from 543 to 850, a proposal to be considered during the special session of Parliament from April 16-18.
Out of 850, a total of 815 seats will be reserved for the states, and the remaining 35 seats will be allocated to the Union Territories (UTs). The Union government has shared the draft of the proposal with the Members of Parliament (MPs).
