Bageshwar: The Pindari Glacier trek route, one of Uttarakhand’s most popular adventure destinations, has been opened for tourists, trekkers, and mountaineers from April 15.

The trek will remain accessible until June 15, 2026, offering visitors a chance to experience the natural beauty of the high Himalayas.

Preparations completed for safe trekking

District officials confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the trek is safe, organized, and enjoyable. Facilities for coordination, tourist guidance, and emergency assistance have been set up along the route. Forest personnel will be deployed at registration centers round the clock to help visitors in case of emergencies.

Registration required

Tourists must register at the eco-tourism centers located at Hichori and Jakuni before starting the trek. This step is mandatory due to the difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. Registration ensures that trekkers are accounted for and can receive timely assistance if needed.

Unique beauty of Pindari Glacier

Located in the high Himalayan region, Pindari Glacier is world-famous for its breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and lush alpine meadows known as Bugyals. Every year, adventure enthusiasts from India and abroad visit the glacier to enjoy trekking, camping, and photography. The trek offers a thrilling experience combined with serene natural beauty.

Plastic waste regulations and FDR charges

To protect the environment, strict rules have been introduced this year. Tourists will have to deposit a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) as a security measure — Rs 10,000 for foreign tourists and Rs 5,000 for domestic tourists.

Additionally, a fee of Rs 100 will be charged for each plastic item carried during the trek. The deposit will be refunded once trekkers return the plastic items at designated collection points. This system aims to reduce plastic use and keep the glacier area clean.

Forest Department’s appeal

Divisional Forest Officer Aditya Ratna urged tourists to minimize plastic use and dispose of waste responsibly. He emphasized that preserving the fragile ecosystem of the Himalayas is everyone’s responsibility. By following the rules, visitors can help maintain the natural heritage of the region for future generations.

The opening of the Pindari Glacier trek marks the start of another adventure season in Uttarakhand. With strict eco-tourism measures, improved facilities, and safety arrangements, authorities hope to provide tourists with a memorable experience while protecting the environment. For adventure lovers, the trek promises thrilling views and unforgettable moments in the lap of the Himalayas.
