New Delhi: The National Anti-Doping Agency has added Indian cricketers Abhishek Sharma and Axar Patel to its testing pool for the second quarter of the ongoing year.
Sharma and Patel were part of India’s recent T20 World Cup winning team and replace senior national team cricketers Smriti Mandhana and Shreyas Iyer in a list of 345 sportspersons.
They are required to disclose their whereabouts with NADA and be available for testing in a specified window everyday, failure to declare is considered a doping violation.
Among the senior men’s national team cricketers already the list are Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh and Tilak Verma.
From the senior women’s cricket team, Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma remain on NADA’s watch alongside Renuka Singh Thakur to round off a list of 14 cricketers.
A total of 134 athletes have been included, an increase from a count of 118 last year, with steeplechaser Avinash Sable, hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, decathlete Tejaswin Shankar, long jumpers Shaili Singh, M Sreeshankar, discus thrower Tajinderpal Singh Toor and sprinter Animesh Kujur being the prominent names included.
Archers Deepika Kumari, Rakesh Kumar Archery, para-archer Sheetal Devi, hockey stars Manpreet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas and Hardik Singh along with women’s team captain Salima Tete, Savita Punia, and Navneet Kaur were named.
PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Gayatri Gopichand are among eight shuttlers named alongside 22 boxers including world medallists Nikhat Zareen, Nishant Dev and Jaismine Lamboria along with the Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain.
Thirty one wrestlers, including Olympic bronze winner Aman Sehrawat are also under NADA’s watch.
