New Delhi: A BDS student died after falling from a building at a dental college in Kannur on Wednesday, April 10. The victim, identified as Nithin Raj R L, a first-year BDS student, was critically injured near the medical college block.
The family of the victim alleged that Nithin was denied timely treatment after falling off the building, as he later succumbed to his injuries. The family also alleged that Nithin was facing harassment over caste and colour by the college administration.
The victim’s sister, Rekha, said that the college authorities didn’t disclose the details of the treatment provided to his brother after he was found injured.
She also added that his brother was admitted to the medical college for two hours, and the doctors couldn’t identify his blood group. There has been a long delay in his treatment. “How much time does it take for a medical college to identify a blood group?” she asked.
The institution claimed that five units of blood were given to Nithin, but his sister said that the eyewitness confirmed that he had only suffered a fracture in one leg.
Rekha alleged that the institution hasn’t given a clarification yet and denied the claims of the medical college that his brother was under pressure after borrowing money through a loan app.
“There is something suspicious that has happened at the college. Raj would not end his life out of sympathy for a teacher who was disturbed over loan app operators contacting her,” Rekha said.
Rekha also confirmed that the college administration had taken his brother’s phone before his death.
Earlier, police had filed a case against two faculty members under the provisions of the SC/ST Act and abetment of suicide. Both faculty members are currently absconding and are also suspended by the college authorities.
Meanwhile, television channels aired a voice message of Nithin in which he talked about the harassment by faculty members and expressed apprehension about being intentionally failed in the exam.
