Kartik Aaryan is the latest Bollywood actor to take the legal route to protect his identity online. He filed a plea before the Bombay High Court after finding that his name, image, and likeness were being used across digital platforms without his knowledge or consent. This week, things moved forward. The court signalled it was ready to act, bringing the Kartik Aaryan personality rights case closer to a concrete outcome.

Kartik Aaryan’s Personality Rights: Bombay High Court Set To Pass Order

At the Wednesday hearing, Justice Sharmila Deshmukh indicated she would pass an order directing the removal of content that violates the actor’s rights online. His legal team laid out several specific examples of misuse, including merchandise being sold using his identity and AI-generated videos, some of which were flagged as outright scandalous. The Kartik Aaryan Bombay High Court proceedings also established that his name itself holds trademark value, which makes any unauthorised commercial use a direct infringement.

Kartik Aaryan’s Legal Team Names Multiple Brands Misusing His Identity

The Kartik Aaryan court case has named a range of Indian and international e-commerce and social media platforms as defendants, along with several unnamed entities. His photographs, voice, and other personal attributes have reportedly been used in ads. Also, on merchandise and across various digital formats, all without permission. Things have gone a step further with deepfakes also being used to misrepresent Kartik Aaryan. His plea specifically addresses AI-generated material that has placed him in scenarios he has never been part of and never consented to.

His demands are straightforward. A permanent injunction to stop defendants from commercially exploiting his persona, directions to platforms to pull down offending content, and, wherever possible, the disclosure of identities behind such content. Justice Deshmukh’s response at the hearing was encouraging, and a formal order under the Kartik Aaryan legal case is expected soon.

He is not the first to go down this path. Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Salman Khan, and Karan Johar have all secured similar protections from Indian courts. The Kartik Aaryan latest news around this case reflects a broader shift in how public figures in India are beginning to treat their digital identity as something worth defending.
