A top-class bowling effort with fielding brilliance that didn't let the batting beasts bloom—this pretty much summarizes the game between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 15. RCB chased down 147 runs scoring chase in Bengaluru with almost five overs left, with Romario Shepherd the hitting the winnings boundary as the home teams defeated LSG by 6 wickets.
Notably, Virat Kohli, who played his first match as an impact player, contributed the bulk of runs. For the rest of the batters, the Rishabh Pant-rid LSG did not let anyone settle much, barring some quick cameos from Jitesh Sharma and the captain Rajat Patidar that eased the chase. With the win, RCB overtook Rajasthan Royals sealing the top spot at the IPL 2026 Point table with 4 wins from 5 matches, similar to RR but with a better run rate.

Rasikh wrecks Lucknow with four-for, Bhuvi starts with three
After opting to field first, RCB’s bowlers set the tone by restricting LSG to 146 in exactly 20 overs, with Rasikh Salam leading the attack through an excellent 4/24. Bhuvneshwar Kumar backed him up with 3/27, while Josh Hazlewood’s disciplined 1/20 ensured the visitors never found sustained momentum. Fielding deserves a loud applause, especially the two catches from Phil Salt and Tim David off Bhuvi, dismissing Rishabh and George Linde.
Mitchell Marsh top-scored with 40 off 32, Ayush Badoni made 38 off 24, and Mukul Choudhary added a handy 39 from 28, but regular strikes hurt LSG throughout the innings. The biggest disruption came when Rishabh Pant had to retire hurt on 1 after the side had reached 33/1, returning later only to fall for the seventh wicket.
From 71/3 in the 10th over, LSG briefly rebuilt through Badoni and Choudhary, but RCB’s attack triggered another collapse as the last four wickets fell for just nine runs, keeping the total below par on a batting-friendly Bengaluru surface.
Kohli sets the chase, middle order finishes cleanly
RCB’s reply was aggressive from the outset, racing to 60/1 in the powerplay and effectively shutting LSG out of the contest early. Virat Kohli anchored the chase with a fluent 49 off 34 balls, striking six fours and a six, while Rajat Patidar changed gears with a 13-ball 27 at a strike rate above 200. Jitesh Sharma’s 23 off just nine balls further tilted the game decisively in the hosts’ favour.
Although Prince Yadav briefly revived LSG’s hopes with 3/32 and Avesh Khan removed both Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, the asking rate never became a concern. After RCB slipped from 121/3 to 122/5, Tim David and Romario Shepherd calmly wrapped up the chase with unbeaten 14s each, sealing victory in 15.1 overs.
