Kurnool: Eight people were killed and 13 others were injured in a horrific road accident near Chilakaladona, Mantralayam mandal, Kurnool district in the early hours of Thursday, Tv9 Telugu reported.
The accident took place when a Bolero vehicle collided with a ready-mix lorry. Five victims died on the spot, while three others passed away while undergoing treatment at the Yemmiganur hospital. Among the deceased are five women and a young girl.
The accident occurred when a group of devotees from Chikmangaluru, Karnataka, were traveling to Mantralayam to seek the blessings of Sri Raghavendra Swamy.
The deceased have been identified as Kumar (60), Deepika Veena (35), Sunil (40), Belli (3), Puttamma (60), Meenakshi (50), Tayamma (60), and Lolakshi. Police officials arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations.
AP Ministers Bharath and Janardhan Reddy expressed their shock and grief over the accident and directed officials to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care. They also conveyed their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh from PM National Relief Fund for the kin of the deceased while the injured would receive Rs 50,000 each.
He conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
